On the 14th of October 2003 The White Lady Restaurant situated in the South West Wing of Newstead Abbey ceased trading.
Pascali Ltd trading as the White Lady Restaurant obtained a 21 year lease of the premises from the owner Nottingham City Council in 1981, and for the duration of the lease ran a very successful and highly acclaimed Restaurant and Coffee shop. Although the premises were derelict when Pascali obtained the lease, through hard work and dedication, the White lady soon became an Internationally recognised venue.
It was the home of the Newstead Abbey Byron Society, which had, and still has strong links with the International Byron Society.
Despite letters of protests from members of the public and from around the world Nottingham City Council chose not to renew the lease of the White lady Restaurant in favour of there own in house catering service, thereby forcing the White lady to close it’s doors for good. sadly the passing of a wonderful venue.
